My daughter Romi is obsessed with a smoothie from Rebar, a popular juice place in Israel. Unfortunately for her and rather fortunate for my wallet, the Rebar in our neighborhood was closed permanently.
Months passed by, it suddenly dawned on me that I have everything needed to make smoothies at home. Armed with a pink vintage KitchenAid blender, the journey for stealing the recipe of her favorite smoothie began.
After a couple of reverse-engineering attempts resulting in mediocre bland-tasting smoothies, I knew that something sweet was sorely needed but couldn’t quite figure out what. Changing the juice base didn’t help. After further digging, the missing ingredient was (drumroll please) mango sorbet! Sweet and creamy but not milk-based, the sorbet exactly what is needed to round out the smoothness of this summer drink.
